Andy Watson has been making pottery for 54 years since his first class at the University of Montana.  He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from BYU in Provo, Utah and a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Utah State University in Logan Utah. He has instructed many thousands of students in the art of pottery making at many different schools, retiring after 28 years in the Utah school systems where he was the recipient of various awards for excellence in his art and teaching.  His works have been used in “The Chosen”, “Touched by an Angel”, “Promised Land” and in numerous films for the LDS church.  Permanent exhibits with his pottery are in Kirtland Ohio, Nauvoo Illinois, Cove Fort Utah, and Capitol Reef National Monument.  Other films that have used his pottery was a special on Lewis and Clark and the Imax film shown at the entrance to Zions’s National Park in Utah. He was the first living artist chosen by the LDS art museum to add to their collection. Andy is not a production potter, but a producing potter.  His works in clay are truly one of a kind, preferring to not make sets of things. Andy has been credited as being the first person to make four pots simultaneously; one with his feet, one with each hand and a fourth with a pencil held in his mouth.  He currently works out of his studio, Big Sky Pottery and Art Gallery, in Fairfield Montana where he teaches classes and sells his pottery and paintings.
