Kate Settle-Ruland

Artist, art educator, wife, mother and 4th generation Montanan. I “brand” each of my unique and diverse artworks with the Bar HL brand, a brand is so much more than just a hot iron on hide, it is  a history, a journey and a story all in its own, my brand has been in my family for generations and has given me a sense of place and belonging. It is my icon of the American West that I wish to preserve and share with those who may never have the chance to dance the night away in my colorful boots.

I am a painter, loving watercolor, inks, oils and acrylics each for their own diverse abilities. As a high school art teacher I work in a very broad array of mediums, and have come to really appreciate and admire engraving on scratchboard, enabling me to achieve details that I have never captured with a brush. I am blessed to be a  Western Heritage Artist,  a member of the Western Art Rodeo Association, the International Society of Scratchboard Artists as well as a quick draw artist for the World Famous Miles City Bucking Horse Sale,  Virginia City Art Show and  Footprints on the trail.

Capturing the allure and romance of my Southeastern Montana, to share with others is how I want my brand to leave its mark. With the help of fanciful fresh colors, close and curious details art that has a story of its own.
