Karen Elkan

I am an artist currently residing in Kalispell MT, where I grew up enjoying the beauty that was found in our wonderful state. I work primarily in soft pastels in a realistic manner. I paint them on paper using, brushes, sponges, and anything else that can give me the look that I am working for. I add details with both pastel sticks and pencils. I also enjoy working in a variety of other mediums in a similar manner. The beauty in nature is my inspiration when I am painting landscapes and our wildlife. I also love watching the working people and animals of the West, and spend time painting rodeo scenes. I have shown in many juried art shows both here, and in New York. In 1976, I began working with Ace Powell, who taught me many lessons prior to his passing in 1978.
