Jack Cantrell

Montana-based wildlife artist Jack L. Cantrell has been busy honing his watercolor painting techniques. Originally working in acrylic, pencil and ink the self-taught artist was eager to try a more challenging medium to express his passion for Northwestern wildlife. Jack’s unique use of negative space in his paintings draws the viewer’s eye to the focus of the piece.

Since returning to his hometown of Great Falls in 2013 Jack has been an avid supporter of wildlife stewardship programs. He has been featured in several fundraising auctions for the Mule Deer, Lewis & Clark, and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundations and Walleye Unlimited. During the 2016 State Fair, one of his watercolor works was chosen for the Fair’s permanent collection and he was awarded first place for water media at the 2016 and again at the 2018 WHA Footprints on the Trail Art Shows. Jack’s paintings are currently part of private collections throughout North America.
